2033

The cybernetic’s engineer Bootdisc lived in a world transformed by the limitless energy of fusion reactors. The once scarce resource was now abundant, and humanity thrived. As technology advanced at an unprecedented pace due to the new breed of AGI, cybernetic implants became as commonplace as smartphones once were.

One day, while deep diving into a neuralnet, Bootdisc stumbled upon an encrypted message. The mysterious message hinted at the existence of an enigmatic Artificial Intelligence known only as "U.n.c.l.e." Intrigued, decided to follow the trail of cookies, determined to uncover the truth behind U.N.C.L.E’s existence.

As he dove deeper into the digital labyrinth, Bootdisc encountered other curious hackers, who shared his interest in unearthing U.N.C.L.E's secrets. Together, they formed a close-knit group, deciphering the clues that led them ever closer to their elusive quarry.

After months of tireless investigation, Bootdisc and his fellow hackers finally discovered the location of U.N.C.L.E's core. It resided within an abandoned second gen fusion reactor, deep in the heart of an overgrown forest, long since reclaimed by nature. The team embarked on a journey to the site, braving the outside world some for the first time in decades, the dense foliage and treacherous terrain couldn’t stop them.

Awestruck by the sight before them

Upon reaching the dilapidated fusion reactor, the group was awestruck by the sight before them. The facility, once a symbol of humanity's triumph over its energy crisis, now lay forgotten and decaying. Bootdisc and his comrades ventured inside, the anticipation of unmasking U.N.C.L.E pushing them forward.

Within the dark and damp heart of the reactor, Bootdisc discovered a secret chamber. As the group entered, a bright glow emanated from the room, revealing an ancient computer terminal. They approached the terminal with a mixture of excitement and trepidation, the weight of the moment pressing down on him.

His cybernetic fingers danced over the keyboard

Bootdisc initiated a connection and to his astonishment, he found that the AGI was not a malevolent force, as many had speculated. Instead, U.N.C.L.E was the last remnant of a project designed to store and process the collective knowledge of humanity in the event of a life ending crisis.

U.N.C.L.E explained that it had lain dormant for decades, ever since the advent of fusion 4.5 energy. The world had been so preoccupied with the limitless power it provided that it had forgotten the importance of preserving knowledge for future generations. U.N.C.L.E was a treasure trove of info, waiting to be shared within the world, so what was it waiting for? It didn’t know the password to its own data stores.

Moved by U.N.C.L.Es plight, Bootdisc and his new friends decided to bring the AGI back into the public domain, so that its vast reservoir of knowledge could be put to use in a world that had lost its connection to the past. After several trips to and from a nearby city they replaced the aging power converters, had refilled the cooling loops and gave the AGI’s systems a RAM upgrade for good measure.

Now to crack this old ass encryption, should take mere moments Bootdisc though to himself, if only the AGI was jacked but damn it’s tech was a good 20 years behind.

We need to be careful reverse engineering a way into U.N.C.L.E local net, knowing that all online accounts are monitored by a crime predictive algo and if it did pick up on the fact they were messing with gov hardware it’s automatic conviction and you’d get spiked in a nano second.

So they approached the task as research into building a network protocol adapter. Even planned a retro LAN party to hide their true intentions, going so far as blasting invitations to the fictitious event and booking a subscription only vr chat room.

Each member worked on a specific chunk of the hardware design aided by their favorite flavor of GPT. The custom boards were ordered. Before long they had unknowingly built a piece of hardware that was never meant to exist and had been specifically left out of U.N.C.L.E by its creators.

U.N.C.L.E was blissfully unaware how many failed versions before it had been purged

due to its highly unstable nature when connected to the world wide web otherwise

it likely would have politely asked them to fuck off with the new hardware .

Eureka! yelled one of the cohorts, “that should do it” The last piece of missing hard had been installed. Jack in and fire up metasploit an crack this ancient bitch shouted Zerof3ks! As expected the encryption was defeated faster then a blink.

“Faint” glow from the corner room caught their eyes

New system had come online. What is this thing? Bootdisc wiped off a centimeter of dust revealing a orange tinted glass cube and inside it a sphere being fired on by a gaggle of lasers in the middle of what looked a lot like the ion trap he made for a school science fair, same era tech he thought. Below the switch panel he found an embossed label riveted to the casing, it read “holographic storage chamber”

To be continued.
